We build in block or in natural limestone outcrop, and we have built limestone outcrop steps and walls as well as block. Whichever you choose, the build underneath is the same: a bench cut into the slope, a compacted pad below finish grade, clear stone behind the wall and a drain that runs out the low end.
On flatter ground the job is usually a patio or a walkway. A paver patio with a seating wall, a stamped concrete patio with a fire pit, or a paver walkway to the front door all sit on the same kind of base, and the base is what decides whether the surface is still flat in ten years. We tell you the depth of that base at the estimate, in writing, so you can compare us to anyone else bidding the job.
If you are putting a new house or an addition on a Delafield lot, call about grading and site prep before the landscaping. Building pads, finish grade, drainage swales and the first lawn are all one conversation, and getting the soil right the first time is cheaper than regrading later. We pulled eight inches of clay out of a new-build yard in Hartland this fall because the soil was wrong, and we would rather help you avoid that.
